59. What to Know about the Canadian Renters Bill of Rights – 2024 Budget
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced measures aimed at helping renters. While the intentions sound like they are coming from a good place, the podcast discusses why the measures are nothing but a vote grabbing attempt.
Provincial governments are responsible for housing yet the federal government has once again meddled.
With little being done to find actual solutions to the challenges being faced by both tenants and landlords alike, Xerxes and Geeta opine that the $15 million tenant protection fund for “better protecting tenants against unfairly rising rent payments, renovictions or bad landlords” would not address the horrifically long wait times for hearings with the Landlord Tenant Bureau.
One seemingly positive measure includes tenants building on their credit while paying rent.
